About The Position

The Senior Environmental Consultant understands the issues involved in protecting the environment and natural resources—degradation, conservation, recycling, and hydrogeologic protection of water supplies to comply with Federal environmental regulations. They are responsible to ensure there is integration of regulatory and technical requirements for facility decommissioning and remediation of contaminated environmental media (e.g., soils, surface water, ground water), and provide oversight in the areas of environmental compliance and permitting, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs), State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES), air monitoring, and other applicable state and federal environmental regulations. Additionally, the Senior Environmental Consultant supports environmental analysis in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and environmental policy work to facilitate and provide leadership in development of environmental impact statements or environmental assessments, conduct associated analysis, facilitate meetings, ensure that analysis and administrative functions are carried out in accordance with established policies and procedures, review and draft documents, and resolve complex NEPA and policy issues. Serves as a NEPA and Environmental Analysis and Policy consultant and expert to facilitate the NEPA compliance process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Work experience may substitute for the education requirement. Associate’s degree plus 2 years relevant experience, or 4 years relevant experience.
  • Seven (7) years of related work experience is required.
  • Requires a deep understanding of environmental science essential for assessing environmental impact, conducting site assessments, and developing remediation strategies.
  • Must be well-versed in local, national, and international environmental regulations to ensure compliance with relevant laws.
  • Requires a deep understanding of Federal Environmental Policy, Rules, and Regulations including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Requires strong technical skills to collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data.
  • Must possess a good command of the English language.
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Must possess problem solving skills and critical thinking.
  • To perform this job successfully, the individual should have fluency with computers and be familiar with a wide range of software and general office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a part of the interdisciplinary team for the project
  • Ensure that analysis and other functions are carried out effectively in accordance with established laws, policies, and procedures
  • Provide advice and guidelines for analysis frameworks, development of alternatives, purpose and need, and other aspects of project process
  • Help to resolve conflicts and complex NEPA and policy issues
  • Participates in, leads, facilitates, and prepares materials for meetings, briefings, and presentations, which may include but are not limited to:
  • Interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Executive and other leadership briefings
  • Public meetings
  • Assists with preparation and writing of documents, which may include but are not limited to:
  • Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments
  • Specialist reports
  • Federal Register Notices of Intent and Availability
  • Decision documents
  • Briefing papers
