About The Position

The Senior Enterprise Technology Engineer will be responsible for the support, maintenance and support for SMUD's enterprise Mail and Active Directory. This position requires experience in large-scale systems design, integration and installation including a strong in-depth working knowledge of endpoint management, desktop/mobile application management, load balancing/high-availability, system security, networking principles, DNS, various scripting methods, sql, and PowerShell. This position may require after hours on-call support and escalation. The purpose of this role is to perform lead technical system support and maintenance for the SMUD networks in the areas of system design, development, installation, operation, maintenance and support to ensure the SMUD use of technology supports its current and future business practices. This role serves as an advanced journey level resource in a relevant professional discipline; works independently on projects of moderate complexity; exercises independent judgment and discretion; and may serve in a Lead role and assist in planning, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and evaluating the work results in assigned area and in selecting, training, motivating, evaluating and developing lower-level personnel.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five or more (5+) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience as a lead in the area of system planning, design, development, test, implementation and training in a network based computing environment including utilizing network topologies and architectures for multi-vendor, multi-protocol networks.
  • Certificates in information technology and/or a products/technology related field from education institutions or vendor certified programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, planning, configuring, installing, and managing enterprise mail and active directory solutions that will be leveraged by an enterprise workforce.
  • Experience with Azure AD, SSO, managing conditional access and external identities.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft 365 product suite and management of O365 Tennant.
  • Ability to collaborate on the development and implementation of enterprise modern endpoint management platform standards.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between vendors, SMUD support center/helpdesk, project teams and business partners to resolve complex system problems as needed.

  • Experience in all phases of the development lifecycle, including use of formal requirement documentation and procedures, formal testing methodologies, implementation strategies, and monitoring techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as project leader on multi-departmental networking computer projects by planning, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining a network infrastructure; identifying and defining corporate level network computing projects; developing project budgets, schedules and identifying staffing needs; monitoring system projects; defining functional system requirements and specifications; developing technical standards and procedures; developing the system design; developing system and user acceptance tests; installing and integrating systems; performing post-implementation reviews; and providing technical consultation and solutions for technical issues.
  • Analyzes the need for new hardware and software systems, upgrades and modifications by evaluating the effectiveness of the current systems; analyzing networking operating system software and related hardware performance and capacity utilizing software and hardware tools; conducting feasibility studies; developing cost analysis; defining user and system requirements; performing market research; preparing procurement and bid documents; evaluating proposals; evaluating hardware/software products; designing modifications; addressing integration issues; and performing post-implementation reviews.
  • Assesses the overall effectiveness of information technology system use by users by developing and maintaining training plans; assessing user needs; designing and developing training material and procedural documents; delivering training courses; and conducting post-training evaluations.
  • Supports the overall effectiveness of the use of the network infrastructure by offering technical expertise and leadership on network systems; providing network consultation; solving a variety of complex networking design, operational and maintenance problems using unconventional methods; troubleshooting user obstacles; and providing 24-hour on call support to departments.
  • Plans, coordinates, prioritizes, monitors, and guides work activities with work-unit employees to meet established task objectives and deadlines by following established policies and precedents; communicating with team members and incorporating their input to processes and techniques; providing staff training; promoting staff safety and a safe work environment; assisting in selecting and orienting new personnel; assisting in evaluating work performance results; participating as a team member in accomplishing objectives; and referring problems to supervision where solutions are not readily achievable.
  • Assists in administering the department budget by participating in planning, monitoring and revising schedules, work plans, expenditures and assignments.
  • Plans, coordinates, prioritizes, monitors, guides, reviews and conducts work activities associated with department internal/external projects in accordance with established task objectives and schedule as outlined in the project plan/contract.
