About The Position

This position is a key part of our Bike R&D technical team working closely with Engineers, Designers, Product Managers, test labs and factories to build the world's best bikes. You will be responsible for compatibility testing, assembly of prototypes, documentation of opportunities for improvement that will help drive design decisions and future products.

Requirements

  • 7 years of hands-on experience in R&D, manufacturing, or Bike technician roles.
  • Experience in the bicycle industry or related fields with familiarity in fabrication, manufacturing, or engineering documentation.
  • Proficient in operating manual mills and lathes with a basic to intermediate level in machining.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD for measuring, modifying parts for 3D printing, and creating conceptual models or tool designs to solve practical challenges.
  • Knowledge in carbon fiber layup and repair, including following layup schedules and accurately cutting plies.
  • Familiarity with Bambu Studio, HIDLink, FactoryStudio, Turbo Studio, IdeaMaker, Cutworks, and Creo, all relevant for prototyping and testing purposes.
  • An AS or AAS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or a related field is highly beneficial. Equivalent experience is valued.
  • Strong technical curiosity and dedication to continuous learning.
  • Excellent shop and machining practices.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate seamlessly in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certifications include Specialized Master E-Bike Technician, UBI Master Suspension Tech, Sram Technical University, and Bosch E-Bike Expert.
  • Additional manufacturing, product development, or technical certifications like A&P or ASE are also advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding of SBC NPI fundamentals
  • Field test bike builds and inspections.
  • First production bike builds and inspections
  • Keen eye for detail and ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing to a global audience.
  • Ability to perform accurate inspections and use the tools needed to do so. Such as Calipers, Micrometer, taper gage, borescope, etc.
  • Able to read and understand 2D engineering drawings
  • Understanding of ISO standards vs SBC standards and how they can affect production.
  • Perform Component Compatibility Inspections
  • Developing understanding of SBC test standards
  • Actively participates in projects to support the Global Quality, Design Engineering, and Product teams with ownership of projects in Agile.
  • Demonstrates full understanding of the SBC NPI Process from concept through production.
  • Collects and presents actionable, repeatable data to inform project team decisions.
  • Proves out design concepts and presents them in a clear, actionable manner.
  • Shares knowledge openly to mentor and empower junior technicians.
  • Collaborates closely with Design Engineering (DE) to solve challenges during the concept and design phases.
  • Participates in risk assessments and design reviews, supporting steps to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Works with Product Management to ensure small parts BOM accuracy.
  • Reviews manuals and documentation for clarity, accuracy, and operational correctness.
  • Writes clear SOPs for global team communication.
  • Engages in Pilot assembly processes to provide immediate feedback.
  • Educates the Field Quality team on potential issues with new products.
