About The Position

Serco is hiring an Senior Engineering Technician to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver quality work performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships located in the beautiful surroundings of Chesapeake, Virginia. As the Senior Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for Performing non-routine and complex assignments involving the responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project that will be performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. In this role, you will: Select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, or layouts. Contact personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work. Review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others. Outline objective, requirement, and design approaches completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. May train and be assisted by lower-level technicians. Design, develop, and construct major units, devices, or equipment. Conduct tests or experiments. Analyze results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance, and reports results. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements which are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems; select from several possible design layouts; calculate design data; and prepare layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design. Plan or assist in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determine test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conduct tests using all types of instruments; analyze and evaluate test results and prepare reports on findings and recommendation.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety is critical.
  • Position requires High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 8 years of experience in a shipyard environment.
  • Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electronics repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • Applicants also must be willing to work more than 40 hours work weeks.
  • Applicants must successfully undergo a background investigation.
  • This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens
  • Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
  • 25% travel may be required. Applicant must be willing to travel to various work sites.
  • The ability to work onsite in Chesapeake, VA.
