About The Position

The Senior Engineering Technician performs advanced technical work to support hardware development and validation activities. You will apply substantial technical judgment to troubleshoot complex electrical issues, build and modify development fixtures, and complete validation testing on prototype and pre-production hardware. You will partner with hardware engineers to accelerate development cycles and improve hardware robustness. You will report to our Engineering Team Lead - Hardware and work at our headquarters in Milwaukee, WI.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or technical certification in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Typically, 4+ years of relevant experience supporting development of hardware, design assurance, or engineering labs.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems and prototype hardware.
  • Familiarity with compliance-related testing such as ESD, surge, thermal, or vibration testing.
  • Hands-on electrical troubleshooting experience with the ability to diagnose issues at the circuit and system level.
  • Demonstrated experience with fixture building for engineering development or validation testing.
  • High proficiency in soldering and PCB rework, including surface-mount and through-hole components.
  • Experience supporting or completing validation testing in a hardware development environment.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
  • Practical experience with common electrical and electronic lab instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform electrical troubleshooting on complex prototype and development hardware, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Build, modify, and maintain engineering and validation fixtures, including electrical wiring, mechanical integration, and debug support.
  • Complete advanced soldering and PCB rework, including fine-pitch surface-mount components and complex board assemblies.
  • Support and complete validation and verification testing, including functional, electrical, EMC, and environmental testing, following engineering test plans.
  • Set up, configure, and operate development lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and signal generators.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written procedures, and verbal instructions to perform testing, checkout, and prototype builds.
  • Document test results, observed failures, and build changes with detail to support engineering analysis.
  • Provide technical input to engineers regarding test coverage, fixture design, and observed design weaknesses.
  • Maintain lab organization, calibration awareness, and safe handling of ESD-sensitive components and equipment.
