About The Position

The City of Santa Clara currently has three (3) openings in its Senior Engineering Technician classification. The current openings are within Silicon Valley Power (the Electric Utility Department), the Water & Sewer Utilities Department, and the Department of Public Works. The Senior Engineering Technician will be responsible for preparing scaled and dimensioned plans, maintaining records, performing computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, and supporting various engineering functions across departments. The ideal candidate should be proficient in AutoCAD and have experience in the water, recycled water, sewer, or general civil engineering industry.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or tested equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of full-time paraprofessional engineering experience at a level equivalent to City of Santa Clara Engineering Technician.
  • At least one (1) year working with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and software.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class C driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an Associate's degree or higher, including satisfactory completion of post-secondary courses in mathematics, engineering, CAD, GIS, and related subjects.
  • A certificate in CAD.
  • A certificate in GIS.
  • Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Preparing scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering and/or estimating personnel.
  • Maintaining records of as-builts and updating existing maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications.
  • Performing computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD.
  • Checking drawings of electric utility facilities.
  • Preparing exhibits and updating CAD files.
  • Accessing and updating asset management software.
  • Performing site visits and field measurements.
  • Supporting the water sampling program and plan checks.
  • Preparing construction documents and performing field inspections.
  • Updating block books and communicating with customers, contractors, and engineers.
