About The Position

The Senior Engineering Technician/Engineering Technician Trainee will assist in the performance of civil engineering work and provide engineering support to technician and engineering staff. The incumbent will be expected to participate in field work; review contracts and specifications; prepare and review maps and plans; perform and check computations; prepare portions of written reports; assist in the design of highway and bridge projects; and conduct complex field and laboratory tests of engineering materials. Tasks may include taking measurements, checking computations, collecting and compiling data, making calculations, performing inspections, and preparing inspection reports on construction projects. The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency with computer applications in the performance of assigned duties. Travel throughout the Region may be required. Duties specific to each program area (Construction/Design) will be discussed and reviewed in detail during the interview.

Requirements

  • One year of experience assisting in engineering or related fields, and graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • 18 semester credit hours of college coursework in relevant fields.
  • Graduation from a high school technical program in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, or related fields.
  • Two years of experience assisting in engineering or related fields for Senior Engineering Technician.
  • An associate's degree in relevant fields for Senior Engineering Technician.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, or related fields may substitute for one year of experience.
  • 36 semester college credit hours in relevant fields may substitute for experience.
