About The Position

The Role: At General Motors, the Senior Engineering Manager – Virtual Test Platforms plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing GM’s transformation into a software-defined, customer-centric mobility company. This position focuses on virtual embedded systems, including virtual mechatronics, digital twin technology, virtual prototyping, and integrated mechanical-electrical-software platforms that enable next-generation vehicle development. You will lead engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering virtual test environments and mechatronic integration frameworks. This role requires a blend of technical depth, strategic vision, and people leadership to ensure GM remains at the forefront of innovation in electrification, autonomy, and connected vehicle ecosystems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software engineering, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with 3+ years in leadership roles managing technical teams.
  • Proven experience in MCU/low-level firmware systems and virtualization platforms
  • Strong understanding of multi-domain integration (mechanical, electrical, software) and virtual validation workflows.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with leadership and business execution.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with digital twin platforms, MBSE tools (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault CATIA), and simulation software.
  • Background in large-scale, mission critical systems or advanced R&D environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based virtualization environments and high-performance computing.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through virtualization and digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Develop Teams: Manage and engineering team and/or managers specializing in virtual mechatronics and simulation technologies. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Drive Technical Strategy: Define and execute engineering roadmaps for virtual mechatronics platforms aligned with GM’s enterprise architecture and product development goals. Champion adoption of digital twin technology, virtualized testing environments, and model-based design practices.
  • Deliver Scalable Solutions: Ensure delivery of high-quality, reliable virtual simulation environments and mechatronic integration tools. Oversee system performance, scalability, and cost optimization for virtual engineering platforms.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product development, software engineering, hardware teams, and suppliers to enable seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems. Drive alignment between virtual and physical validation processes.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish best practices for virtual engineering workflows, including simulation lifecycle management, CI/CD for models, and data governance. Lead incident reviews and continuous improvement for virtual platform reliability.
  • Talent Strategy: Support workforce planning and succession strategies for emerging technical roles in mechatronics and simulation. Mentor technical leaders and engineers to build future-ready capabilities.
