As the Senior Data Engineering Manager for Data and Insights, you will not just lead a team—you will own the strategic data foundation that powers Hinge Health’s R&D, Product, and Data Science initiatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or software development.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical leadership, with a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams and potentially other managers.
  • Strategic Architecture: Deep expertise in designing large-scale data ecosystems, data warehouses, and dimensional models (dbt) that support business-critical operations.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency with SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java) to guide technical decision-making.
  • Cloud & Compliance: Extensive experience with cloud-based data technologies (AWS, Databricks, GCP) and navigating highly regulated environments (healthcare, fintech, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing managers or leading multiple squads/pods.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with streaming pipelines and technologies such as Kafka or Kinesis.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, HIPAA, and data quality best practices.
  • Experience leveraging AI/LLMs for ELT development and analytics optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Take command of the Data Engineering Verticals Roadmap, establishing operational objectives that align technical execution with high-level business goals for Data Science and Product Growth.
  • Audit current architecture and set the strategic direction for critical scaling milestones.
  • Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization, hiring key talent and establishing career pathways that grow future leaders.
  • Drive the delivery of complex vertical solutions, meeting all critical scaling milestones with autonomy.
  • Oversee the architectural evolution of our data ecosystem, implementing advanced ETL/ELT processes that achieve 99.9% data availability and reliability for downstream teams.
  • Institutionalize robust data governance and security frameworks—including HIPAA compliance—that serve as company-wide standards for quality and risk reduction.
  • Spearhead our AI/LLM data strategy, architecting data marts that position Hinge Health for the next generation of AI-driven analytics.
