About The Position

Our mission is to prevent loss of life and reduce property damage caused by high water and floods. We are part of a team that utilizes its engineering skills and background to support that mission. We are the technical experts that respond to requests for flood fight support day or night. We are in the field working throughout the year to identify and report on threats and improve the flood protection facilities that protect our communities. Under the direction of the Supervising Engineer, Water Resources, the incumbent must exercise competent independent judgment, analyze situations accurately and take effective action, establish and maintain cooperative relations with other agencies, represent the Department of Water Resources at meetings and hearings of a sensitive nature, assist higher level management in administrative issues, and effectively contribute to DWR's objectives and its professional stature. Develop and supervise a team of engineers and oversee the work of technical experts performing hydraulic, hydrologic, and geotechnical evaluations and inspections of the flood protection system. Perform supervisory functions relating to personnel actions and meeting DWR Equal Employment Opportunity goals and training. Take actions on hires, transfers, promotions, performance evaluations, Appraisal and Developments, and disciplinary actions. Plan, lead, organize, and control staff activities on multiple programs within the unit. Evaluate staff performance and take appropriate actions in improving performance as necessary. Must be able to serve in one of the sections as established in the Incident Command System to assist DWR in performing its emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation functions. Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Boating license, construction management experience, skills with MS Access, MS Excel, and other MS Office based products.
  • Experience with presenting information to the public and the media.
