About The Position

Beehive Industries is looking for an energetic and driven Whole Engine & Secondary Flows Analyst to quickly integrate and become an instrumental part of our team designing, developing and testing new centerline engines and associated development rigs. This role will partner with cross functional module leaders and manufacturing experts on a daily basis facilitating development and delivery of a successful Beehive product.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • At least 5 years of experience in gas turbine component design with a concentration are of thermals, fluids and whole engine air, fuel, and oil systems
  • Strong understanding of software tools (CAD, ANSYS, etc)
  • Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles
  • Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
  • Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issues security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of turbomachinery components and assemblies using sound engineering principles while meeting industry standards and program requirements. This includes evaluation of the effects of the overall system (transient and/or steady state heat transfer) on components and assemblies.
  • Experience with finite element analysis using ANSYS Workbench/Classic-APDL and associated tools. Includes performing hand calcs involving convection, conduction and radiation calling upon fundamental correlations where appropriate and applying these within Ansys.
  • Experience with 1D fluid systems relating to whole engine gas turbine development. Familiarity with rotor-stator interactions, calculation of windage, thermal effects related to the relative temperature effect, sizing internal flow circuits including critical restrictions using Flownex or other commercially available tools.
  • Lead engine system, component and rig test programs from a thermal design perspective. Set test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, and test planning to execute component validation
  • Serve as the component subject matter expert as part of a diverse system design team. Ensure products and sub-systems meet overall requirements from a thermal and fluids perspective. Advocate for component durability while understanding the trade-offs and business decisions necessary to deliver the best overall solution.
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, controls, stress and life, additive manufacturing, quality, materials and system analysis, etc.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments in order to manage the risks associated with particular design decisions and how they impact the system design.
  • Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design. Advise on ways to improve product design through the exploitation of additive manufacturing.
  • Role will initially be an individual contributor comfortable working in a dynamic self-directed start-up environment. As the organization grows, this role will be responsible for scaling design capability to support additional projects which may include some future team leadership. Being able to grow leadership capabilities with the role will be critical.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices.
  • Work with suppliers to procure hardware and resolve producibility and quality issues.
