At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. We're seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join our Satellite Software and Autonomy team. In this role, you'll design, develop, and implement advanced autonomous systems and software solutions for our satellite platforms. Your work will directly contribute to enhancing spacecraft autonomy, improving mission reliability, and enabling more complex mission profiles with reduced ground intervention. This position plays a critical role in advancing our autonomous capabilities and maintaining our competitive edge in space technology.

  • Design and develop autonomous decision-making systems and state machines for spacecraft operations
  • Create and implement fault management software to ensure mission continuity during anomalies
  • Architect and build software systems that operate in safety-critical, real-time environments
  • Develop machine learning algorithms for spacecraft autonomous navigation and operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software with flight hardware systems
  • Perform code reviews, testing, and validation to ensure robustness of flight software
  • Document software architecture, APIs, and testing procedures according to industry standards
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience developing software for embedded or autonomous systems
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages
  • Experience with Linux environments and Git version control
  • Knowledge of state machines and autonomous system design principles
  • Background in fault management and safety-critical systems
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and their constraints
  • M.S. degree or PhD in relevant engineering field
  • Experience with spacecraft systems and space mission operations
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their application in autonomous systems
  • Background in robotics or autonomous vehicle software development
  • Experience with flight software qualification and certification processes
  • Familiarity with FPGA programming and hardware interfaces
  • Prior work on successful space missions or spacecraft deployments
  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Dependent on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on the company's intent to reward individual contributions and enable them to share in the company's results, or other factors at the company's sole discretion. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and submit to change and cancellation. Please check with your recruiter for more details.
