About The Position

A Senior Engineer in the Division of Immersive Learning Design is pivotal in inventing, designing, optimizing, and analyzing AR, VR, and MR solutions. The Division of Immersive Learning Design at Mayo Clinic is a pioneering team within the Department of Education, dedicated to transforming medical education through cutting-edge augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) technologies. The Senior Engineer designs and develops components of biomedical-related engineering systems, applying knowledge of complex principles, theories, concepts, tools and techniques to the design challenges. The candidate will design experiences, interactions, and applications that support effective collaboration within immersive environments. Using existing infrastructure that creates digital twins and 3D patient-specific models, the Senior Engineer will seamlessly integrate them into extended reality (XR) platforms for surgical planning, medical education, research, and the development of XR-enabled medical devices.

Requirements

  • Experience in AR, VR, and MR technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of biomedical-related engineering systems.
  • Ability to design and develop immersive experiences.
  • Experience with digital twins and 3D modeling.
  • Technical leadership experience.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop components of biomedical-related engineering systems.
  • Apply knowledge of complex principles, theories, concepts, tools, and techniques to design challenges.
  • Design experiences, interactions, and applications for effective collaboration within immersive environments.
  • Integrate digital twins and 3D patient-specific models into XR platforms.
  • Serve as a Technical Lead for Division projects.
  • Provide technical and work direction to project team members.
  • Complete technical work as needed.
  • Mentor and coach other staff as required.
  • Develop skills in one or more engineering disciplines.
  • Evaluate new technologies and capital equipment.
  • Develop expertise in safety risk management and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, physicians, and health care providers.
  • Develop engineering and technical documentation.
