About The Position

In this role, you will be responsible for assigned projects including engineering, design, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration. This position's responsibilities include performance of or oversight of engineering calculations, systems and equipment selection, refrigeration and process cooling systems design and drafting, supervision of the refrigeration engineers and designers assigned to the project, project design budget management, and project schedule management. This person will assist the Lead Engineer on various tasks to ensure success of the discipline within the business unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
  • Typical minimum of ten years of experience after PE licensure with specific industry focus.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Creative, innovative and on leading edge of discipline technology and knowledgeable across systems building types.
  • Active participation in professional organizations.
  • Ability to read and effectively interpret building construction documentation and associated reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills to effectively work with others and interact with all levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures understanding and compliance with owner’s building program requirements and corporate standards related to refrigeration systems design.
  • Confirms and reviews applicable codes and standards such as but not limited to the International Building Code Council (Mechanical, and Fire), ASHRAE Standards (90.1, 62 and 15) IIAR standards and NFPA.
  • Establish and document the refrigeration systems basis of design and provide clarification, qualifications, and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.
  • Works with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost-effective systems/products are utilized in their facility.
  • Works with building owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value engineering options as may be necessary.
  • Establishment of the building envelop thermal insulation values for the purpose of developing refrigeration load calculations.
  • Performs and documents engineering calculations related to refrigeration and process cooling systems for the purpose of selecting code compliant systems and equipment.
  • Performs design, layout and size, chilled glycol, chilled water, condenser systems and related equipment.
  • Performs design, layout and sizing of ammonia, CO2 and synthetic refrigeration equipment selections.
  • Drafts or oversees the drafting of the refrigeration and process cooling systems and establishes the appropriate level of drawing detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost.
  • Schedules refrigeration equipment with the appropriate accessories and remarks.
  • Develops the necessary control drawings (schematics, points list and sequence of operation) to ensure adequate environmental temperature and humidity control or system and equipment performance.
  • Ensures that there are complete and accurate specifications.
  • Problem solving for field challenges.
  • Shop drawing/Submittal reviews.
  • Completes field inspections and reports.
  • Completes photograph review.
  • Responds to RFI’s.
  • Supervision of the staff assigned to the projects.
  • Ensuring staff utilization.
  • Overseeing the work performed by the assigned staff.
  • Prepares design man-hour estimates and scope write-ups for assigned proposals and/or projects.
  • Designs project within provided design budget and negotiates additional design fees when scope is expanded.
  • Provides direction for what is to be included in design package issue (pricing documents, SD, DD, and CD).
  • Works with projects EM/DMs to ensure that project schedule will be met and complete documents provided for each submission.
  • Maintains required licensing CEU.
  • Proactively attempts to receive in-house/out-of-house training to maintain design skills.
  • Manages assigned staff on the projects.
  • Provides mentoring of assigned staff.
