About The Position

As a Power Electronics Senior Engineer in Vernova Advanced Research, you will be involved in the development of new power electronics concepts and integrating them with next generation GE Vernova products. Your work will include working and leading a team doing power electronics system design, modeling, and simulation, and testing of power converters and converter submodules, testing and characterization of power electronics devices, EMI filter design for converters application. You will contribute and lead development of advanced power conversion concepts as well as their implementation for application to power generation, transmission, and distribution applications.

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field with experience developing power electronics and controls with a minimum of 6 years of experience OR a Masters degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience developing power electronics and controls
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to have a current or active Secret Clearance with an ability to attain a Top-Secret Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DC grid concepts, including medium and high voltage DC applications
  • Familiarity with energy storage, FACTS and other power electronics products for grid applications
  • Familiarity with microgrids and grid integration of renewables
  • Familiarity with Distributed Energy Resources applications and interfacing them with consumer/industrial applications or military bases.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct power electronics research through modeling simulation, and design of power electronic circuits and controls
  • Develop and test power converters devices, working knowledge with SiC and GaN devices
  • Develop and test control solutions for power converters devices
  • Design and develop naval shipboard power conversion modules
  • Participate with multi-disciplinary teams and lead GE Vernova Advanced Research teams in the development of new power technologies and capabilities for GE Vernova's next generation product platforms
  • Innovate in the power electronics space and lead Intellectual Property development/reviews
  • Effectively communicate results by preparing written reports and making presentations that describe analyses and solutions
  • Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends in industry
  • Contribute to proposals for GE businesses as well as government agencies, especially with Department of Defense (Navy)
