The Senior Engineer, Packaging is responsible for independently leading the design, development, and optimization of packaging systems for medical device products. This role applies in‑depth technical knowledge and best practices to solve complex problems, improve packaging performance, and ensure packaging solutions meet regulatory, operational, and customer requirements. The Senior Packaging Engineer works with minimal guidance, serves as a technical resource for less experienced colleagues, and collaborates cross‑functionally across the organization. This position reports to the Manager , Packaging Engineering & Labeling and is part of the Engineering organization located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will be an on‑site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Design, develop, and validate packaging systems for sterile medical devices. Lead or contribute to moderately complex packaging projects, including project planning and cross‑functional coordination. Recommend and implement improvements to packaging materials, processes, and systems. Support packaging equipment selection, qualification, and troubleshooting activities. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers while supporting regulatory and quality compliance efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • Multiple years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of 3 years in medical device packaging or another regulated industry.(Using ISO 11607-1/2)
  • Demonstrated experience in packaging design, validation, and process improvement, including knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Ability to lead small projects and independently solve complex technical problems
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including domestic and international travel.
  • Typical travel assignments range from 2–5 days and may require overnight, out‑of‑town stays.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or professional certification in Packaging Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting packaging equipment qualification and continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated environment.
