  • Proven ability to read/create technical construction drawings and installation packages; strong documentation skills
  • Knowledge of OSP engineering standards, permitting processes, and construction methods/materials
  • Understanding of transport and routing technologies and protocols (Layer 2/Layer 3 Ethernet and transport networking)
  • Product knowledge of Cisco and Nokia routers; Ciena and Fujitsu transport; Calix and Adtran access; associated power (fuse panels, BDFB) and fiber management modules
  • Hands-on experience with the tools/systems listed above and ability to adapt to evolving platforms
  • Strong project management skills for scheduling, budgeting, risk tracking, and progress reporting
  • Excellent oral and written communication; comfortable collaborating across internal teams, vendors, and contractors
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to meet business needs when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Developing and defining plans for implementation of new OSP/ISP construction, installations, and modifications to existing network facilities
  • Preparing detailed engineering plans, specifications, work orders, drawings, and supporting documentation, including field data gathered through site surveys (often with vendors/contractors)
  • Engineering and designing fiber, Ethernet, transport, power, and inter-office fiber technologies across central office, hub, and field environments
  • Ensuring solutions are feasible, practical, economical, and aligned with Brightspeed standards and long-term network plans
  • Providing material lists, cost estimates, and financial inputs to support capital planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Monitoring and controlling project/product expenditures and track progress against required commitment dates
  • Acquiring and coordinating civil permits; maintain positive interactions with governing authorities and external agencies
  • Overseeing and quality-assuring construction, installation, and testing of OSP/ISP plant facilities
  • Designing and provisioning transport/IP/Ethernet circuits, interconnecting new platforms with legacy networks and access devices (Transport, Metro/Core Ethernet, Access)
  • Performing transport channel mapping and detailed circuit design planning; supporting provisioning for transport and Ethernet services
  • Participating in and supporting test, turn-up, and troubleshooting activities to ensure acceptance of new equipment and platform augmentations
  • Analyzing local and wide area network environments; evaluating protocol suites, operating systems, communication media, and network devices for interoperability
  • Configuring and integrating new hardware and software into user and network environments, ensuring compatibility across platforms
  • Supporting acquisition and implementation of hardware, software, and subcontractor services for both OSP and ISP projects
  • Collaborating closely with planning, operations, construction, vendors, suppliers, and internal customers to ensure coordinated execution and high service quality
