About The Position

Ardurra is seeking a Senior Engineer - Master Planner and Modeling - Water Wastewater to join our team ideally in Newport Beach, CA., but could be based out of any of our California offices. Primary Function:  The primary function of the Senior Hydraulic Modeler / Master Planner is to lead the development, analysis, and interpretation of complex hydraulic models to support long‑range planning for water, wastewater, and recycled water systems. This role is responsible for translating system data, operational requirements, and infrastructure characteristics into accurate, actionable planning solutions. The position provides technical leadership in the evaluation of capacity needs, system performance, and future improvement strategies, while ensuring modeling assumptions, methodologies, and outputs align with industry standards and client objectives. The Senior Modeler / Master Planner also collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, guiding junior staff and contributing to the development of master plans, feasibility studies, and capital improvement programs. The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded background or proven skills in master planning and hydraulic analyses and will support technical staff on water / wastewater / recycled water planning projects. The candidate will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent. Equivalent modeling and master planning project experience with another STEM degree will be considered.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in California.
  • 5-8 years of related experience in master planning tasks related to but not limited to: developing / confirming water demand factors and demand projections, developing / confirming sewer flow factors and flow projections, performing I/I analysis, business risk calculations, alternative analysis, cost estimations, alternatives scenario analysis, fire flow analysis etc.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling tools such as Autodesk modeling products including but not limited to InfoWater, InfoWater Pro, InfoSWMM, InfoSewer, Aquanuity or other equivalent software. Experience with other modeling tools will be considered.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro and integration with Innovyze software.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for use in development of master plans, studies, engineering reports, and related technical documents.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly self-motivated, able to anticipate and initiate subsequent project tasks, working independently or with minimal instruction.
  • Able to work efficiently within a predetermined project budget and schedule.
  • A writing sample of or link to previous work is encouraged.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Asset Management software like InfoAsset Planner is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and track milestones, tasks, and activities
  • Develop and run hydraulic models and document results in reports or technical memoranda.
  • Perform research and analytical tasks related for water, recycled water, and wastewater masterplans, urban water management plans, asset management plans, water supply assessments, risk assessments, flow monitoring reports, etc.
  • Attend meetings to discuss project progress and results.
  • Actively managing assigned projects
  • Assist with business development activities.
  • Archive final deliverable documents – reports, models, and associated tools.
  • Experienced with public project delivery for water/wastewater/ recycled water.
  • Strong understanding of how to conduct infrastructure modeling to include water pumping stations and sewer lift stations and the effects to system hydraulics and modeling outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of how conveyance infrastructure such as pipelines, flow control facilities, turnouts, pressure‑reducing stations, metering stations, and related facilities effects system hydraulics and modeling outcomes.
  • Ability to evaluate how these components influence pressures, headloss, flow distribution, and operational performance within complex water, wastewater, and recycled water systems.
  • Experience and ability to integrate facility-specific characteristics into hydraulic models to support accurate planning, design, and operational decision‑making.
