About The Position

Lila Sciences is seeking a dedicated Instrument Software Engineer to join our team to help build the next generation of AI-in-the-loop laboratories. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the interface between hardware, science, and software, and who enjoys working with scientists and engineers across disciplines to create innovative solutions within this complex space. You will be building and expanding our AI-in-the-loop experimental platform, directly contributing to Lila’s core mission of achieving Scientific Super intelligence.

Requirements

  • 5 years of industry experience in engineering
  • Proficiency in Python, C#, or similar languages is essential
  • Experience with hardware integration, instrument-facing software, robotics software, or simulation development.
  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug hardware-software integration issues.
  • A history of building thoughtful, impact-focused engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency with version control systems.
  • Effective utilization of state of the art AI tooling

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing scientist-facing software, particularly if in a laboratory setting
  • Familiarity with event driven architectures and cloud-to-edge integrations
  • Familiarity with building CI/CD pipelines and as-needed DevOps solutions at the interface of cloud and on-prem systems.
  • Previous exposure to data contracts, api development, and ETL pipelines
  • Hardware-hacking with nonstandard or creative integrations to get non-automatable things automated.

Responsibilities

  • Instrument Software Development : Develop robust, production-quality software to enable communication between laboratory-focused robotic systems and our orchestration and data software systems, ensuring reliable and efficient integrations.
  • System Integration : Integrate instruments seamlessly within new and existing automation frameworks and robotics control systems, ensuring compatibility and stability across our platform.
  • Testing and Debugging : Develop rigorous testing frameworks and scaffolding supporting and spanning SW unit testing, Simulation-in-the-loop, Hardware-in-the-loop, and Science-in-the-loop to identify, isolate, and rectify performance bugs and compatibility challenges.
  • Collaboration & Technical Documentation : Work closely with cross functional teams, including hardware engineers, software engineers, automation engineers, product managers, and scientists. Generate clear and comprehensive documentation to facilitate these relationships and ensure long-term supportability of our platform.
