About The Position

Microchip’s Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) business unit is a growing, world-leading provider of precision time solutions, setting the global standard for time. The business unit generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the aerospace, defense, communications, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. Microchip's customers can build more reliable networks and systems by utilizing the company's advanced timing technologies, atomic clocks, services, and solutions. Microchip products support today's precise timing standards, including GPS-based timing, IEEE 1588 (PTP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), Synchronous Ethernet, and more. Our Government Systems group in Boulder, CO, is seeking a Senior Engineer II - Systems (Integration Hardware) to join our growing team. In this position, the individual will be performing the following functions: Integrating hardware components such as servers, timing systems, GPS receivers, networking equipment, and other various equipment into full system solutions. Performing rack-level integration, including cabling (Ethernet, serial, RF, and power). Running system-level and acceptance tests to ensure hardware and software operate seamlessly together. Troubleshooting integration issues and performing root cause analysis. Documenting wiring diagrams, rack elevations, system block diagrams, system configurations, integration steps, and validation plans, procedures, and reports. Supporting installations, calibrations, and field testing at customer sites as needed. Working with cross-functional engineering teams to align on requirements and ensure successful delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 7–8 years of hardware system integration or test engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with lab test equipment (for example, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, time interval and frequency counters).
  • Familiarity with networking (Ethernet, PTP, NTP, serial, managed network switch configuration).
  • Ability to interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • US Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with precision time and frequency technology, phase noise, and Allan Deviation measurement, related precision instrumentation, IRIG, and GPS.
  • Experience with RHEL/Rocky/Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with government/defense integration standards and technology (MIL-STD, ITAR).
  • Exposure to Agile workflows and tools (Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow).
  • Current or recently active TS/SCI.

Responsibilities

  • System Integration & Assembly: Install and configure hardware components in lab and field environments. Verify functionality through integration test procedures.
  • Test & Validation: Execute system validation and collect test data. Identify and resolve technical issues during integration cycles.
  • Documentation & Process: Create wiring diagrams, BOMs, and baseline configurations. Follow configuration management and change control.
  • Collaboration: Partner with systems, software, hardware, and mechanical design engineering teams. Support customer integration and field deployments.
