About The Position

Otto Aviation is building the next generation of business aircraft. Flight tests of our technology demonstrator validate dramatic reduction in fuel burn and allow a sizeable improvement in cabin comfort. Leveraging a combination of laminar flow aerodynamics and carbon-fiber materials, Otto Aviation is designing world-class aircraft that take advantage of first principles physics and deliver ground-breaking performance. Otto Aviation is seeking a dynamic engineer to contribute to the design, development, and integration of the electrical system. You will join a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aviation is seeking first principles engineers who balance creativity with experience while working within an effective team atmosphere.

Requirements

  • BS., in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of industry experience in a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of involvement in bid, proposal, and project capture activities.
  • 4+ years of experience overseeing, guiding, and mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of all electrical power generation and distribution systems common in modern Part 23 / Part 25 business aircraft.
  • Mastery of FAR Part 23 and Part 25 certification requirements and processes pertinent to the electrical system.
  • Strong understanding and experience with RTCA D-160G, DO-254, and SAE ARP4754A.
  • Familiarity with both 28 VDC and 270 VDC electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with EWIS (Electrical Wiring InterConnect System).
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and hands-on experience.
  • Overall knowledge of mechanical systems, propulsion, and structures and key interfaces to avionics / electrical system.
  • Proficiency with Dassault 3DX and/or CATIA V6 to interrogate both 3D and 2D data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to closely coordinate with manufacturing to support MRB activities.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical system requirements in line with Otto’s mission objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform trade studies across key electrical systems against requirements.
  • Assist in supplier selection and oversee supplier integration activities.
  • Generate and maintain electrical load analysis in collaboration with adjacent system owners.
  • Oversee component, system, and aircraft level functional testing, including ground and flight test.
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams and validate avionics & electrical interfaces for mechanical systems, propulsion, and structures.
  • Define and show compliance for responsible systems to 14 CFR Part 23 and Part 25 regulatory certification requirements.
  • Work with pilots and human factors engineers on the design and layout of electrical system interfaces.
  • Work with maintenance and operation experts on meeting reliability and maintainability targets.
  • Technical oversight and mentorship of junior engineers.
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
  • Development of electrical system CAD definition within Otto’s PLM system.
