About The Position

The Senior Sustaining Electrical Engineer plays a critical role in driving long‑term improvements to our Class III active implantable medical devices. This position leads sustaining engineering initiatives that enhance product reliability, reduce cost, improve manufacturability, and resolve quality issues. You’ll work across the full lifecycle of improvement projects—from concept through validation and implementation—while collaborating closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and strategic suppliers. This is an opportunity to apply deep electrical engineering expertise to products that directly impact patient lives, while shaping the future of our implant and external device technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in product development and/or manufacturing, ideally in medical devices, electromechanical systems, or small consumer electronics
  • Strong ability to design, analyze, and troubleshoot hybrid RF/analog/digital electronic systems
  • Hands‑on experience with PCB/PCBA design, fabrication processes, and microelectronics
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and related tools
  • Familiarity with programming environments (e.g., C, C#, LabView, Python) for automation and hardware debugging
  • Experience with FMEA, CAPA, and DFM processes
  • Proficient in Altium and Microsoft Office; experience with Oracle PLM preferred
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills; able to adapt to shifting priorities
  • A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design solutions for sustaining and continuous improvement projects, from concept through implementation.
  • Manage project schedules, risks, and communication to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement electrical design improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Drive PCB/PCBA cost, quality, and manufacturability improvements, including supplier collaboration and DFM activities.
  • Create and manage Engineering Change Orders, including schematic, layout, drawing, and BOM updates.
  • Develop and execute test procedures and reports to support verification and validation activities.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams—including R&D, Design Assurance, Manufacturing, and suppliers—to support ongoing operations and product enhancements
