The position involves leading projects and assignments that require expertise in modeling and planning distribution lines and substations within an electric power system. The role emphasizes strong technical skills in electric power system design and data maintenance, with responsibilities including problem identification, scenario-based planning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies. The position also requires effective communication with regulatory bodies and distribution customers, along with leadership in coordinating engineering efforts.

  • Identify Distribution System problems involving multiple feeders and substations.
  • Lead and conduct scenario-based planning studies, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions for a reliable distribution system.
  • Develop medium (2-5 year) and long (5+ year) range distribution plans involving load relief, capacity, asset-related issues, and large DER integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups to develop long-range planning criteria for integrating new technologies such as photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage.
  • Prepare contingency studies for distribution networks including N-1 and N-2 analysis.
  • Propose new distribution substations and associated overhead and underground feeders.
  • Perform area-wide voltage and power factor studies, recommending findings to distribution engineering and operations.
  • Lead or conduct forecast studies to determine loads used in distribution planning studies.
  • Partner with other departments to prepare economic analysis for complex projects and recommend cost allocations for jointly used facilities.
  • Recommend project priorities for the capital construction program financial review.
  • Conduct and manage studies to support facility needs, evaluate alternatives, and prepare documentation for regulatory applications.
  • Prepare distribution-related documentation and testimony to support regulatory filings.
  • Communicate effectively with distribution customers regarding proposed facilities.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating cross-functional groups and guiding engineers positively.
  • Present recommendations and results to management at all levels.
