You’ve discovered something special. A company that cares. Cares about leading the way in construction, engineering, manufacturing and renewable energy. Cares about redefining how energy is designed, applied and consumed. Cares about thoughtfully growing to meet market demands. And ─ as “one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America” ─ is focused on the mind/body/soul of team members through our Culture of Care. We are seeking a Lead Battery Systems Engineer to join our R&D organization and drive innovation in stationary energy storage solutions. This role will focus on the design, development, and validation of advanced battery systems for UPS, C&I, and BESS applications. You will lead system-level testing, create validation plans, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure performance, reliability, and safety of integrated battery systems.

  • Participate in system-level testing of integrated battery systems for UPS, microgrid, EV charging, and data center applications.
  • Develop test plans and protocols to validate battery performance, life, and reliability at cell, module, and pack levels.
  • Conduct and document DFMEA and failure mode analysis for battery systems.
  • Define system-level requirements for size, performance, cost, and compliance for stationary battery systems.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including specifications, selection analysis, and simulation reports.
  • Collaborate with simulation, thermal, and mechanical engineers to define modeling requirements and validate battery architectures.
  • Partner with controls and software teams to establish guidelines for BMS design and integration.
  • Evaluate and benchmark new chemistries and competitive technologies to ensure best-in-class performance.
  • Support verification and validation activities by defining DVP&R for battery system testing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (UL 9540A, UL 1973) and lead risk assessments for product safety.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in battery system design, architecture, testing, or integration for stationary applications (UPS, BESS, C&I).
  • Strong knowledge of lithium-ion chemistries, battery architectures, and failure modes.
  • Hands-on experience with battery testing and validation protocols.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and safety regulations for stationary battery systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear recommendations and guidelines to stakeholders, technical development teams, and testing teams
  • Master’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with DFMEA, root cause analysis, and reliability engineering.
  • Knowledge of aging analysis, end-of-life behavior, and thermal management strategies.
  • Experience with performance modeling tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape) and FEA/CFD for thermal and structural analysis.
