About The Position

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking to hire an Engineer with a focus on Advanced Equipment Development. The successful candidate(s) will join a dynamic custom equipment development organization creating innovative solutions for the Savannah River Site, DOE complex and national security missions. We are seeking creative, flexible, and self-motivated individuals able to lead multidisciplinary teams to develop one-of-a-kind engineering solutions in a safe and responsible manner. The ideal candidate will have experience developing specialized equipment and is recognized as an expert in their field. Initial focus will be on automation, robotics, controls, instrumentation, and data acquisition system development. Responsibilities Project/Program Development: The selected candidate must be able to lead teams in planning, schedule & budget creation, technology development, proposal writing, project execution, project monitoring, testing and field deployment. Initiate own technical programs, solve complex technical problems using both internal and external resources, and bring a high degree of technical credibility in the specialty of engineering unique equipment and systems. Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a timely and cost-effective manner. Communication: Position requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills including verbal, written and presentation skills which will be demonstrated through technical reports, presentations, and external publications. Experience interacting and collaborating effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel including senior managers and representatives of other national labs to build trust and gain consensus. Other Duties: Ability to efficiently work multiple tasks concurrently in a rapidly changing environment and attend to sensitive details with high consequence of error while providing excellent customer service. Working under minimal direction with significant latitude in determining and planning activities to reach objectives and address challenging technical problems. Understands and applies advanced knowledge of standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques in engineering. Ideal candidates are engineers capable of developing, designing, fabricating, assembling, testing, calibrating, and deploying systems to meet unique complex technical challenges. Apply technical expertise in field of specialization and broad-based experience in multiple technical fields while leading multidisciplinary teams. Identify areas where technical expertise can solve complex technical challenges and recommend such opportunities to management. Represent SRNL in technical areas to oversite groups, DOE complex and professional societies. Prepare technical manuals, reports, procedures, invention disclosures and submit publications to external conferences/journals. Expected to guide and mentor early career engineers with a focus on DOE complex and facility specific knowledge transfer. Candidates with a research focus and ability to develop successful proposals and build positive relationships with sponsors are desirable. Use SRNL systems and meet requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. PLC System development and programming experience is a plus. Accepts complex tasks and drives projects to completion delivering results meeting or exceeding customer expectations.

Requirements

  • BS + 10-12 yrs; MS + 8-10 yrs; PhD + 7-9 yrs of relevant experience
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Electrical, Computer or Nuclear Engineering is preferred.
  • PLC System development and programming experience is a plus.
