In this job, you'll serve as a senior staff expert in specialized areas, such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Inverter Based Resources (IBR), especially as it relates to Transmission system modeling and planning studies, as well as provide training and direction to other engineers within the organization. This position will also be involved in external engagement by participating and representing SCE's strategic objectives within technical industry groups, including but not limited to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Seven or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering experience related to modeling and performing analyses on SCE's Transmission system (i.e., typically 220 kV and 500 kV)
  • Familiarity with industry committees, subcommittees, working groups, and task forces as it pertains to transmission planning such as NERC and/or WECC
  • Experience using GE PSLF and/or PowerWorld simulation software or similar
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information

Responsibilities

  • Oversees engineers performing diagnostics, monitoring and inspecting equipment, and reviewing grid technologies, building relationships to facilitate cross-functional knowledge transfer of related work groups
  • Leads the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Collaborate and lead with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless development, integration and implementation of future technologies and asset performance management strategies
  • Assists in a variety of engineering and business initiatives and grid strategies, including development of innovative procedures and design recommendations
  • Provides support for new equipment installation and startup, then leads the hand over processes to the ramp and sustaining phases
  • Leads junior engineers in investigation of threats on the distribution system infrastructure based on observations and findings
  • Gathers and correlates basic data using engineering studies and procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems
  • Facilitates training and professional development opportunities for engineering team members to enhance their skills and knowledge
  • Ensures the protection of all physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accesses and manages private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
