Honeywell Sustainable Building Technologies (SBT) does not just focus on a singular set of solutions, but rather, takes a comprehensive view of the entire facility/customer site to identify potential opportunities, discover issues, and identify recommended improvements. We help our customers create an energy strategy that addresses financial obligations and provides scalability for the future. We are currently seeking a Senior Energy Solutions Development Engineer based in New Jersey (flex/remote worker) to support SBT project development throughout North America. In this capacity you will engage primarily in Public (municipal facilities, schools, universities, airports, hospitals, etc.), Federal, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) projects to provide engineering support to the sales team. In addition, you will: use your extensive subject matter expertise to influence customers toward Honeywell solutions; provide both external and internal consultations; help Honeywell teams develop and maintain the right product messaging, customer support, and training; foster cross-functional alignment to customer needs; and participate in pursuit strategy planning, and customer negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience with mechanical and complex industrial type systems
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Knowledgeable of ASME, NFPA, UFC, and international mechanical codes
  • Ability to develop an Investment Grade Audit (IGA) of facilities with varying types use and system complexity.
  • Provide a unique customer focused solution that meets the customer’s technical, social, and financial requirements.
  • Perform a financial analysis to demonstrate the viability of the technical solution.
  • Must have demonstrated ability for speed and quality of technical solutions.
  • Actively manage scope, schedule, and cost of development.
  • Must have a strong understanding of mechanical systems (airside, chilled water, steam, hot water systems, etc.).
  • Experienced/knowledgeable with industrial assessments of various market segments (pharmaceutical, manufacturing, food & beverage, pulp & paper, etc.) to identify and quantify energy savings opportunities.
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge in at least two core system domains with working knowledge across adjacent technologies.
  • Examples include steam optimization, chilled water optimization, industrial refrigeration systems, industrial heat recovery, compressed air systems, thermal energy storage systems, electrification (boilers, heat pumps, VRF, etc.), and/or geothermal systems.
  • Direct experience with design, equipment selection, and control sequencing preferred.
  • The capability to develop new and unique combinations of offerings to meet the customer’s needs around sustainability, resiliency, decarbonization, and emission-reduction initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels to achieve sales goals.
  • Ability to present complex technical ideas and concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • High level of written communication skills to generate reports, presentations and proposals as required.
  • Ability to understand the customer’s organizational culture, buying tendencies, and critical stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating with facilities teams, engineers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team and capacity to adopt best practices and process enhancements.
  • Ability to independently complete contract documents in accordance with standard Honeywell practices.
  • Coordinate with internal teams such as Measurement and Verification, Operations, and Legal teams.
  • Proficiency at generating financial analysis and scopes of work.
  • Ability to reuse and adapt pre-established best practices.
  • Support Operational personnel with post contract engineering, design document development, and project commissioning to drive faster project completion.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and system inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • An estimated 30% of travel will be required.

  • Project Development experience: $1M – $20M+ project size
  • Professional certifications: CEM, LEED-AP
  • Preferably one or more key areas of specialization such as industrial applications (pharmaceutical manufacturing, pulp & paper mills, food & beverage, etc.), electrification (boilers, heat pumps, VRF, etc.), and/or geothermal
  • Familiarity with building control systems
  • Ability to develop and foster strong customer relationships
  • Strong verbal/written communications skills (technical writing, proposal preparation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and future mandates
  • Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction project grants and incentive programs

  • Knowledge of Honeywell and competitor platforms, products, and technologies

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering support of pursuits
  • Use technical capability to analyze data and provide solutions for complex problems
  • Ability to identify Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)/optimization strategies and develop detailed saving calculations for proposed solutions
  • Complete economic analysis of offerings to illustrate value and justify investment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, and technical drawings
  • Generate conceptual schematic design of concepts for preliminary cost estimating
  • Create comprehensive scope of work documents for use internally and externally
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for performance issues
  • Engage in customer-facing activities and present technical briefings
  • Analyze growth opportunities
  • Provide data for sales support documents and participate in proposal generation
  • Develop and champion best-in-class sales training
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to younger or less experienced engineers
