About The Position

Puget Sound Energy is looking for a Senior Energy Scheduler - Power to join our Energy Supply Merchant team. This position is responsible for nominating and scheduling the delivery and receipt of power and transmission daily to ensure supply availability to PSE customers. The role involves assessing and mitigating risks related to supply reliability and increasing energy costs, entering and maintaining transaction-specific information into company scheduling systems, and identifying schedule imbalances at delivery points. The Senior Energy Scheduler will also coordinate activities with supply, dispatch, and accounting to ensure the integrity of the distribution system while upholding safety compliance standards and promoting a culture of total safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum four (4) years energy industry experience, natural gas or power operations, gas control, trading support, commodity accounting.
  • Understanding of physical commodities markets, fundamental market drivers, and rules and procedures for participating in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) market.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Puget Sound Energy's Tariff Rate Schedules and Rules.
  • Proven record of ability to communicate and influence across levels in the organization, leveraging various styles and approaches.
  • Computer proficiency with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft products.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Front Office as the first line of defense in identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial risk to the organization.
  • Responsible for assuring reliable power deliveries to PSE's customers.
  • Maintains and fosters working relationships with Traders, external schedulers, & trading counterparties.
  • Interacts with Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBBs) and Transmission Providers to define receipt and delivery requirements.
  • Actualizes power quantities.
  • Acquires and/or releases transmission assets in the short term.
  • Ensures transaction and logistics details are accurate in the system of record at all times.
  • Ensures operational and regulatory compliance related to power transmission.
  • Keeps abreast of current industry market trends and developments and updates management of any relevant changes from the transmission perspective.
  • Communicates market intelligence to trading teams and senior management to support portfolio optimization.
  • Develops and maintains processes and controls including process documentation, flowcharts, and reporting activities related to scheduling activities.
  • Supervise and ensure monthly balancing requirements are met in ETRM systems.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving training program and structure for new colleagues.
  • Serve as strategic partner across multiple scheduling teams to improve efficiencies, automation, and standardization through lens of risk mitigation.
  • Represent company in various industry forums (e.g. transmission provider meetings, scheduling conferences).
  • Identify and support efficiencies and improvements with operational processes and recommendations.
  • Coordinates energy delivery and supply efforts with Energy Supply Merchant, Energy Risk Control, Energy and Derivative Accounting, Resource Planning, Resource Acquisition.
  • Complies with all market regulations including FERC, NERC, and local utility commission regulations.
  • Complies with PSE's risk policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
