About the position

As an Embedded Piping Designer, you are relied upon to build and maintain the client relationship while acting as the primary client point of contact for projects. The right candidate will be self-sufficient and able to manage a project as the lead. The trajectory of this role is to eventually manage the construction aspect, so experience in Construction Management as well as Engineering Consulting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Creates 2D drawings
  • Review and analyze specifications, drawings, P&ID's and engineering standards and client requirements in order to deliver a product that meets the client's needs.
  • Prepare preliminary designs using 2D AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam Revu
  • Perform all the necessary verification and design effort to prepare drawings and deliverables
  • Develop piping project documents: Line List, Tie-In List and other project specific lists
  • Assists the engineering team with creating and maintaining equipment list, trap schedules and stress analysis, etc.
  • Gather field data
  • Follow and assist with managing client's document control system
  • Use design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
  • Use established pipe specifications
  • Quality - ensure technical accuracy of project deliverables and follow Quality Control procedures
  • Apply good judgement and practice in all work
  • Participate in and/or manage construction support and startup as necessary
  • Interface with other design discipline counterparts and project management
  • Build professional relationships with clients and coworkers to ensure a healthy work environment

Requirements

  • 10+ years of recent piping design experience
  • Experience using CADWorx and AutoCAD 2D
  • Experienced in creating and annotating typical industrial deliverables such as equipment layouts, piping plans, piping isometrics, structural drawings, P&IDs, etc.
  • Experience with typical piping documents: P&IDS, plans, sections, details and isometrics
  • General knowledge base of universal equipment piping systems sufficient to quickly understand the plant specific equipment (i.e. electric motors, pumps, control valves, generators, tanks, etc.)
  • Ability to identify equipment and types
  • Experience in modeling in 3D laser scan data is a plus
  • Experience working with Navisworks to receive feedback and comments from reviewers is a plus
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks with limited supervision
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to recognize risks and issues and to bring them to the attention of the team
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors to collect project information needed for the design effort
  • Experience working on multiple simultaneous projects, able to shift between projects as requirements change and evolve
  • Maintain attention to detail
  • Experienced in using drafting best practices to ensure all of the requested changes and mark ups are accurately implemented into the model, documenting all of the changes
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Positive conflict resolution skills with a focus on delivering the best outcome for the customer
  • Excellent note taking skills
  • High School Diploma required
