About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Electromechanical Harness Architect to join our Electrical Engineering team within our Bot Hardware organization. Your job will be to own and elevate the wiring and interconnect architecture across our next-generation autonomous robotic platforms. In this role, you’ll go beyond harness design—you’ll define the standards, strategies, and system-level decisions that drive reliability, manufacturability, and cost across our entire robot fleet. You’ll act as the technical authority for harness architecture, bringing automotive-grade discipline to a fast-scaling robotics environment. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on design, solving complex packaging and integration challenges, and building scalable systems that directly impact product cost and performance in the field. The Electrical Engineering team is part of the Bot Hardware organization at Symbotic, responsible for building the electronic and interconnect foundation that powers our autonomous robotic systems. We design and deliver the hardware platforms, wiring architectures, and embedded systems that enable our robots to sense, compute, move, and operate reliably at massive scale across warehouses, micro-fulfillment centers, and emerging applications. Our work sits at the intersection of robotics, electrical and mechanical systems, and high-performance product design—supporting some of the most advanced automation systems operating in real-world environments today.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience in harness design, cable engineering, or electromechanical systems.
Strong background in automotive or high-volume product environments, with experience in cost-driven, production-scale harness design.
Proven track record of driving cost reduction through design, sourcing, or manufacturing improvements.
Deep experience designing for manufacturability and serviceability in real-world production systems.
Proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic and wiring documentation.
Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D routing, integration, and packaging.
Strong understanding of signal integrity, power distribution, and EMI/EMC considerations.
Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620, UL standards, and connector/terminal selection.
Experience leading design reviews, setting standards, and influencing cross-functional teams.
Collaborative, hands-on mindset with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, scaling environment.

Nice To Haves

Automotive harness experience with exposure to PPAP/APQP processes and supplier cost modeling.
Experience with AGVs, robotics, or other mobile/industrial automation systems.
Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, etc.).
Experience with CAN bus, low-voltage signal wiring, and higher voltage power distribution systems.
Experience working with distributed or multi-site engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Drive structured cost reduction initiatives across wiring and harness systems through design simplification, connector rationalization, and strategic sourcing.
Redesign harness architectures to improve manufacturability, serviceability, and overall system efficiency.
Apply DFMA principles to eliminate unnecessary complexity, reduce assembly time, and improve build consistency.
Identify and remove cost drivers such as redundant wiring, over-spec’d components, and inefficient routing.
Own end-to-end harness and interconnect design across multiple AGV platforms from concept through production and field deployment.
Define cable routing strategies within tightly integrated robot assemblies, balancing durability, flexibility, thermal constraints, and serviceability.
Drive connector, terminal, and wire selection based on electrical, mechanical, environmental, and cost requirements.
Maintain ownership of all wiring schematics, diagrams, and documentation as the system-level source of truth.
Establish and enforce harness design standards aligned with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and applicable safety requirements.
Lead design reviews and mentor engineers on best practices in interconnect design and failure prevention.
Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for field and manufacturing issues related to wiring systems.
Ensure designs meet functional safety expectations and long-term reliability targets.
Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering to integrate harness routing within complex assemblies and resolve packaging challenges early.
Partner with electrical and embedded teams to validate signal integrity, power distribution, and EMI/EMC performance.
Work directly with manufacturing to develop build processes, documentation, and inspection criteria for scalable production.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, raising the overall technical bar across the team.
