About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Electrician/ Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning and Operations. Works independently in a "zone" reporting directly to a second level supervisor. Among the key duties of this position are the following: May guide and instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of electrical duties required for all university facilities. Responsible for performing a wide range of electrical tasks, including estimation, procuring appropriate materials and repairing and installing electrical circuits, wiring, fixtures and controls. Such duties may be based on work orders which provide little or no instruction or assistance. May guide and instruct a group of craft trainees in the performance of a wide range of electrical duties required for all facilities. May be assigned to perform general duties in other trade areas.

Requirements

  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent.
  • Must be competent in performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and circuitry including industrial power wiring and switch gear for 480 volt systems.
  • Must be a qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey or have completed an apprenticeship training program approved by the US Department of Labor that deals specifically with electrical work and is a minimum duration of three years.
  • Must maintain journeyman certification while in job title.
  • A valid driver's license with two years driving experience is necessary.
  • Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
  • Good communication skills, the ability to and lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and the ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
