Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering (ABET accredited); Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of plant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and troubleshoot complex process control schemes and electrical equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical information for a non-technical audience.
  • Experience with MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • ABB and Siemens software and hardware experience.
  • Rockwell/Allen Bradley drive and PLC experience.
  • Experience with the FactoryTalk Platform (AssetCentre, View, License Manager, etc.).
  • Wonderware InTouch HMI programming experience.
  • Experience integrating and networking PCs and PLCs (TCP/IP, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Experience in design, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical power distribution, AC and DC drives, and automation systems.
  • Knowledge and application of NFPA/NEC, ANSI machine safety, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • In-depth understanding of AC/DC high and low control voltage fundamentals.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or other advanced degree.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes related to rolling mills, coil processing, slitting, sheet/strip handling equipment, and winder/unwinder controls.
  • ABB DCS experience.
  • Experience with process data acquisition software (iBA PDA, Wonderware Historian [AVEVA], etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience with process instrumentation (current and voltage signals).

Responsibilities

  • Manage capital projects utilizing the project management life cycle.
  • Drive projects to completion while maintaining timeline, budget, and objectives.
  • Create capital acquisition requests, project scopes of work, RFQs, process functional specifications, project and life cycle cost estimates, and project justifications.
  • Develop process functional specifications, control sequences of operation, and narratives.
  • Design layouts of control cabinets for PLCs and touchscreen interfaces, and generate electrical wiring schematics.
  • Support electrical design, scope definition, coordination, and project buyoffs.
  • Communicate effectively in writing, including preparing and reviewing official and technical correspondence, reports, and presentations.
  • Participate in or facilitate maintainability and design reviews, FATs/SATs, turnover package reviews, and ensure project documentation is accurate, complete, and meets specifications.
  • Design control systems that follow good engineering practices and comply with all applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Develop process control schemes, create programmable controller logic, and design Human Machine Interface (HMI) graphics.
  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot function block diagrams, ladder logic, and structured text for rolling mill control systems.
  • Perform I/O checkouts, IP addressing, start-up, and commissioning of automation equipment and controls.
  • Set up and troubleshoot integration and networking of PCs, HMIs, PLCs, and third-party devices.
  • Lead, coach, and influence the development of technical resources and area team members.
  • Participate in process area team FMEAs, RCAs, and Safety Taproots.
  • Support plant performance by prioritizing and providing engineering support to maintenance and operations as needed.
  • Assist in the development of technical documents to support maintenance and operations.
  • Update plant electrical drawings and electrical specifications.
  • Support troubleshooting of rolling process control equipment on-site and remotely.
