Mission The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for design, development, and testing of innovative IOT products including motor and control systems for existing and new products. The role includes ownership of technical decisions, system architecture, and long‑term platform planning. The successful candidate will guide engineering direction with primary technical ownership, technical oversight, and a leadership and mentoring role.This position operates within a growing market and engineering team, contributing to expanded capabilities, deeper technical expertise, and the evolution of future motorized and automated product offerings. Success is achieved by understanding customer requirements, applying quality tools and methods, and pursuing continuous improvement to enhance product performance, reliability, and value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years design engineering experience in consumer products or controls-related industry
  • Relevant experience with new product development and product design
  • Familiarity with the design of motors, controls, user interfaces and embedded software
  • Understanding of brushed and brushless DC motors and motorized system development.
  • Systems‑level design experience spanning motors, controls, user interfaces, and system interfaces.
  • Low‑power embedded firmware design, including hardware/firmware integration for battery‑powered systems.
  • Experience with wired and wireless communication protocols (RS232, RS485, Z‑Wave, Zigbee, etc.).
  • Familiarity with industry practices and trends for residential and commercial IoT products.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong technical communication skills for reports, project updates, and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, Access).
  • Experience with Altium for PCB and electronic design.
  • Experience using GIT for version control.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prioritize product and design engineering activities as established by engineering and product management.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Channel Marketing to develop new product concepts and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain systems architecture for blinds, including motors, controls, product interfaces, system interfaces, and communication protocols.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., electrical wiring, FCC, UL).
  • Design products and components with safety, quality, durability, reliability, value, and manufacturability as priorities.
  • Develop and plan short‑ and long‑term engineering goals aligned with company strategies.
  • Establish design specifications, material selections, and potential suppliers.
  • Estimate project and product costs and assist with justification, tooling, and materials planning.
  • Facilitate design reviews and incorporate cross‑functional feedback into final designs.
  • Lead a team in a modified Agile-hardware/stage-gate product development process.
  • Develop engineering solutions for customer field issues.
  • Identify and implement cost‑reduction opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit capital requirements for product lines.
  • Prepare and issue engineering reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Maintain and control engineering files, records, and documentation for part and process specifications, drawings, and patents.
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Represent the company in relevant professional and industrial organizations.
  • Maintain and organize the lab area using 5S principles.
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts, including root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Lead electrical product and design engineering activities across all brands and product lines.
  • Lead motorization efforts across products, including motors, controls, software, user controls, and system interfaces.
  • Maintain awareness of motorization and electronics trends in commercial, residential, builder, and home automation markets.
  • Develop innovative designs aligned with product strategy and intellectual property considerations.
  • Participate in capital budgeting processes related to product lines and manufacturing equipment.
  • Manage engineering timelines based on product management priorities.
  • Collaborate with marketing, quality, manufacturing, customer service, suppliers, and other stakeholders on product quality and improvements.
  • Engage directly with customers and consumers as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with associates across all levels of the organization.
  • Consult with the engineering manager and product management team on major issues.
