Primary Function of the Position We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute towards complex high-speed designs for next-generation surgical robotic systems. The person in this position will work closely with Electrical, Vision, Firmware, Software, and Mechanical Engineers and develop designs for upcoming production versions of Intuitive products.

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team to develop requirements and specifications for new designs.
  • Implement detailed designs in schematic form and see design through layout.
  • Collaborate with Firmware and Software engineering to bring-up designs and test functionality.
  • Solicit feedback and implement iterative improvements on designs based on DFM/DFA/DFT, serviceability, reliability, longevity, and performance.
  • Develop and execute test protocols and verify designs meet requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with NPI and other engineering functions to transition designs into production.
  • Contribute towards system level design decisions.
  • Act as a technical lead within the group and mentor more junior members.
  • At least 8 years of board design experience (or 6 years with Master’s and 3 years with PhD), taking designs from concept all the way to production.
  • Digital board level PCA/PCB design.
  • Some experience with Verilog and FPGA design flows.
  • Familiarity with point of load power regulation and switched mode power supply design.
  • Design for electromagnetic compliance (EMC).
  • Transmission line theory and signal integrity; familiar with HyperLynx or equivalent.
  • Fluent in OrCAD Schematic capture (or equivalent).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, etc.).
  • Ability to lead departmental and cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Experience with Allegro PCB Designer (or equivalent).
  • Verilog/System Verilog.
  • C programming.
  • Mixed signal and filter design.
  • (Bonus) experience using Agile, SAP, and JIRA/Confluence or previous medical device experience.
