About The Position

The Senior Engineer (Electrical) is to provide specialized electrical engineering expertise, particularly related to low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems and low voltage motor control centers used in industrial facilities, including water treatment plants. This individual will serve as a subject-matter expert, support ongoing capital projects throughout all phases-planning, design, and construction, act as the Owner's representative for electrical engineering, and manage consultants and professional services agreements. Their role includes troubleshooting complex electrical issues, assisting with design modifications, and managing capital improvement (electrical) projects, such as the Electrical Improvement Project at Water Treatment Plants and providing electrical engineering support for the Reliability Improvement Project (RWTP). The Senior Engineer (Electrical) will also support the Treatment Plant Projects Delivery Units ongoing efforts to enhance facility operations and ensure the successful delivery of vital infrastructure upgrades. Requirements

  • Six (6) years of professional engineering experience designing and maintaining industrial electrical systems in an operating environment, preferably in a critical infrastructure environment including at least two (2) years of lead responsibility.
  • Lead experience should include: supervising, leading, and/or overseeing:
  • Planning, designing, and inspecting all phases of industrial electrical distribution engineering projects.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing existing industrial electrical distribution (both hardware and software).
  • Leading, coordinating and implementing full cycle industrial to electrical distribution projects ensuring no disruption of mission critical operations.
  • Collaborating with project teams to ensure that projects in planning, design, and construction phases are abiding by industrial to electrical distribution standards.
  • Developing technical policies and procedures and making recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Possess and maintain a valid license as a Professional Electrical Engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex, politically sensitive, and/or large treatment plant capital improvement projects through all phases, including planning and design; supervises multi-division teams and coordinates and collaborates with external agencies.
  • Provides electrical and power engineering support for projects under the Treatment Plants Project Delivery Unit.
  • Develop the scope of work, initiate, negotiate, and manage consultants and professional services agreements as assigned, including overseeing the contract process to on-board, maintain the current agreement, and close the agreement at the end of the project.
  • Serve as a technical expert in electrical engineering, including on-site troubleshooting during construction, as well as coordinating and overseeing complex electrical shutdowns.
  • Schedule, lead, and participate in project meetings to discuss electrical and power design elements. Mentor, train, and supervise subordinate staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for the review and preparation of engineering studies, reports, design, and contract documents for compliance with electrical engineering standards and principles, stamps and/or signs such work to assume project (electrical) engineering responsibility.
