About you and this role: Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer, located in Freeport, Texas. This design engineering role is filled by Electrical Engineers with an emphasis in Power.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant Front End Loading (FEL) and Detailed Design Engineering experience with appropriately demonstrated knowledge is required

  • Occasional domestic travel is necessary up to 25%. International travel may be required if necessary
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Project Communications Management: Project communication management ensures that key information flows efficiently and in a predetermined way between the various people working on (or impacted by) a project.   • Engineering Drawings: An engineering drawing is a type of technical drawing that is used to convey information about an object. A common use is to specify the geometry necessary for the construction of a component and is called a detail drawing. Usually, a number of drawings are necessary to completely specify even a simple component. The drawings are linked together by a master drawing or assembly drawing which gives the drawing numbers of the subsequent detailed components, quantities required, construction materials and possibly 3D images that can be used to locate individual items.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing Power Systems Studies with Power System Analysis software (ETAP, EDSA, DAPPER/CAPTOR, EZPower, etc..) is preferred.
  • Significant design engineering work experience in the area or heavy industrial, petrochemical, or utility power systems is preferred.
  • Experience in testing and commissioning of electrical power equipment (type testing, field testing, factory testing, etc…) is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry codes and standards (IEC, NFPA, ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, BSS, Cenelec, etc..).

Responsibilities

  • Function as an Electrical Lead Engineer on medium to large projects, typically >$300M to $10MM Total Installed Cost (TIC). The projects will be located in plants in the US Gulf Coast (Texas and Louisiana) & Canada.
  • Supervise supporting lead engineers, designers, and drafters to develop and assemble the contract packages in accordance with the project objectives.
  • As a member of a multi-discipline, capital project design team, the Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the development and detailed design of electrical systems for Chemical Process Units.
  • The Senior Electrical Engineer utilizes applicable design criteria, design tools, best practices, and established work processes to complete detailed design packages.
  • With support from the Peer/Technical Coach, the successful candidate will be expected to quickly learn and effectively apply the Dow design tools, work processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Once familiar with Dow standards and work processes, the Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal oversight and guidance.
  • Develop Project Manpower Estimates and Schedules.
  • Develop and review the material/labor estimates and material take-offs for consistency and completeness.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to the project electrical design team including supporting leads, designers, and drafters.
  • Senior Electrical Engineer is fully accountable for the required deliverables produced by the project electrical design team.
  • Represent the electrical design team in Project Team Meetings.
  • Independently develop the Electrical Single Line Diagrams.
  • Perform Short Circuit, Load Flow, and other Power System Studies to insure appropriate equipment ratings and power system performance.
  • Perform Protective Relay Coordination Studies.
  • Define and document Protective Relay Settings and coordinate second level reviews with internal subject matter experts (SME’s).
  • Develop motor control and motor restart strategy.
  • Work with the Project Team to develop and document the Electrical Area Classification details and drawings.
  • Work with Electrical Equipment Suppliers and internal procurement organization to develop major electrical equipment order specifications. Major equipment types include: Power Transformers High Voltage and Low Voltage Switchgear Motor Control Centers Variable Frequency Drives Large High Voltage and Low Voltage Motors Prefabricated Electrical Substations Power Cable Large UPS Systems
  • Lead document reviews, performance testing and shop inspections for major electrical equipment.
  • Supervise the design of electrical plans, grounding, lighting, cable raceway systems, basic power distribution including low-voltage installations, low voltage distribution.
  • Perform calculations for sizing low and medium voltage distribution equipment.
  • Utilizing Dow standards, develop switchgear Meter & Relay One Line Diagrams, Control Schematics, and Electrical & Instrument Diagrams (E&ID’s).
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications, inquiry/order packages, job instructions, drawings, and installation details for construction contracts.
  • Provide engineering oversight during the construction phase including occasional site visits.
  • Provide electrical system commissioning and start-up support.
  • Manage key interfaces with other disciplines as defined by Dow work processes.
  • Submit improvement recommendations to Dow standards and practices utilizing the Management of Change (MOC) process.
