About The Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will support development of shipboard low-voltage electrical design and control schematics, cable system design, power management system (PMS) engineering, protective relaying, and integration of electric propulsion and automation systems. This role will work directly with OAC engineering teams, vessel designers, and vendors to deliver high-quality engineering documentation and verification in support of vessel electrical design and integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with professional experience in marine electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in shipboard electrical power and control systems – including cable way design, cable routing, and penetration design.
  • Strong background in low-voltage power distribution, protection, and metering, including PT/CT selection and protective relay interface design.
  • Proven experience preparing PMS schematics, low-voltage distribution schematics, and control system wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with shipboard power breaker sizing and cable ampacity/short-circuit calculations.
  • Background in integrating electric propulsion drive systems and automation interface (e.g., VFDs, drive controls, and system interlocks).
  • Proficient in electrical CAD/diagramming tools (e.g., AutoCAD, EPlan, or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with marine classification standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, etc.).
  • Experience working with hybrid or all-electric vessel systems.
  • Understanding of marine automation and control logic integration with PMS/PLC/SCADA.
  • Ability to support vendor technical evaluations and factory test planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, calculation, and layout of cable ways, develop cable way key plans, and size penetrations for drive, power, and control cabling consistent with shipboard standards and routing practices.
  • Develop detailed low-voltage Power Management System (PMS) schematics, including:
  • Create point-to-point cabling lists from power and control diagrammatics (single line and functional diagrams) for equipment from multiple vendors.
  • Perform shipboard power breaker selection and cable sizing calculations to support panel schedules, load analysis, and compliance with applicable marine electrical codes and classification society requirements.
  • Potential transformer (PT) and current transformer (CT) interfaces
  • External protective relays
  • Control/monitoring interfaces with bridge and automation systems.
  • Develop low-voltage protective relaying and metering diagrams, including relay logic, interlocks, CT/PT placement, metering points, and coordination with circuit protection devices.
  • Interface with system suppliers and contractors to ensure protective device integrations are accurately represented in design documentation.
  • Support electrical design and integration of electric drive propulsion systems, including drive schematics, power distribution interfaces, and control system interconnections.
  • Coordinate with propulsion vendors, automation integrators, and vessel engineering teams to ensure system compatibility and constructability.
  • Prepare and review technical documents: schematics, wiring diagrams, design packages, technical reports, and vendor data submittals.
  • Collaborate with marine engineers, naval architects, automation specialists, and onsite stakeholders to coordinate electrical integration with vessel design and installation schedules.
  • Review design input from third-party vendors and incorporate changes into master electrical models and drawing sets.
