About The Position

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt failsafe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to five years without the need to refuel. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators, and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-built microreactors that leverage existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor next year at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028. Radiant is seeking a talented Senior Electrical Engineer to own designs from requirements capture through operation. The candidate will be directly responsible for components of the nuclear microreactor control and measurement systems. The ideal candidate should be comfortable jumping from designing circuit boards to integration work interfacing with fault-tolerant, off-the-shelf hardware. This role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams designing the nuclear reactor core, fluid heat transfer systems, and structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience designing electrical hardware
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant and safety critical hardware
  • Experience with Ethernet, EtherCAT, Modbus, CANbus, RS-422, or other communications protocols
  • Experience selecting, integrating, and troubleshooting sensors including pressure transducers, RTDs, thermocouples, shaft speed and position sensors, IEPE vibration sensors, and MEMS-based sensors
  • Experience using electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Zuken, or similar schematic and wiring design tools
  • Experience designing, analyzing, and working safely with industrial power systems including 120 VAC, 208 VAC, and 480 VAC equipment, including applicable electrical safety practices
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience specifying and integrating Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor control centers (MCCs)
