About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Urbandale, IA, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects and support delivery of larger, high-complexity work with limited senior-staff support. You’ll partner closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, electrical engineering solutions, and trusted client advice that drive positive outcomes. You will also help manage project budgets, support training and mentoring, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
  • Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system analysis and design efforts, producing detailed designs, specifications, and calculations aligned with code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and develop technical analysis and reports
  • Partner with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information clearly while building strong working relationships
  • Conduct in-process design reviews of electrical designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to confirm designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Provide technical support to help resolve field issues with limited support from senior staff
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff to support team performance and development
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies; contribute to IMEG research, development, and innovation efforts
  • Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with electrical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, architecture, and project management) to deliver integrated solutions
  • Participate in project interviews and project presentations
