We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues. The Role As a Forensic Senior Electrical Engineer, you will investigate problems in the built environment and provide evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues. This position focuses on the investigation and analysis of electrical systems for the insurance and litigation market. The candidate must be willing to learn about site power distribution, building distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, emergency power generation, cogeneration, UPS, and mission-critical systems for industrial, commercial, and hospitality facilities. Interest in renewable energy systems including; photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, and hydroelectric generator is highly desirable. A strong understanding of electrical engineering principles is required as is the desire and ability to learn more. You must be able to write well and continue to improve your writing skills. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform forensic investigations, including fire origin and cause investigations, identify the cause and origin of incidents that lead to electrical failures within industrial, commercial, and residential locations. You will be expected to support and learn from senior engineers. Your work will be varied and may include travel and fieldwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) Certification is desired.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power systems and building codes.
  • Ability to clearly express engineering opinions and conclusions, in writing, and support these conclusions/opinions with facts and sound engineering principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, meet deadlines, and travel to work sites as required.
  • Be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD programs (i.e. AutoCAD).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with any of the following programs is a plus, but not required: Revit, MicroStation, and Bluebeam.
  • Interest in renewable energy systems including; photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, and hydroelectric generator is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of existing conditions and electrical system malfunctions.
  • Preparation of field notes and technical and investigative reports to support forensics findings.
  • Preparation of materials related to presentations.
  • Review and research applicable building codes, NEC, and all other applicable industry standards, etc.
  • Create drawings and specifications and perform construction administration services.
  • Assist the engineering team in the review of reports, plans and specifications.
