A Day in the Life As a Senior Electrical Engineer in Medtronic ENT’s Released Product Management R&D team, you will be responsible for the electrical & electronic hardware design in market-released surgical equipment and devices for ear, nose, & throat procedures. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with low power electronics design, strong circuit analysis skills, and an understanding of design requirements management and test development. Application of Six Sigma development methods, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Robust Characterization (P-Diagram), and Capability Analysis is a plus. This role involves active collaboration with cross-functional partners such as quality, reliability, regulatory, operations, and sourcing colleagues to evaluate and implement design changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required with minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in electrical engineering with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience Or PhD with 0 years of experience

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments and tools, including DMMs, oscilloscopes, data acquisition and control systems, and logic analyzers.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium design tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a motivated self-starter with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience authoring engineering documentation such as specifications, analysis reports, and test plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
  • Experience applying project management skills to plan, organize, and manage work effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternate electronic components for existing designs, including required PCB changes, through design analysis, characterization, and design verification testing.
  • Lead and execute product changes and change-control activities in partnership with cross-functional teams, including impact assessments, updates to design documentation and specifications, and development of test plans.
  • Own and maintain Design History File (DHF) documentation, including design FMEAs, requirements documents, and test plans/reports.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable standards, including but not limited to IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Support cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives, including design enhancements and manufacturing process changes.
  • Partner with supply chain teams and external suppliers to sustain and improve products and components throughout the device lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs by providing design data, clinical use rationale, and technical support for global regulatory submissions and certification renewals.
  • Support CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions) and participate in regulatory and quality compliance audits.
