About The Position

HDR’s Senior Electrical Engineer is part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services team, working on electrical design for a diverse client base, including Water/Wastewater, Healthcare, Science and Technology, Federal, Industrial, Mission-critical, and Commercial projects. Duties include: leading electrical design projects from start to finish, including conducting concept, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals, and other disciplines; designing electrical systems, preparing construction documents with BIM/CADD platforms, reviewing, and editing project specifications and ensuring that the documents meet applicable construction codes and design criteria; performing load calculations; selecting equipment using vendor software and communicating with sales representatives; serving as a technical expert with recognized authority in electrical design, performing assignments and resolving issues of greater scope and complexity; reviewing work performed by and mentoring junior engineers and technical staff; performing QA/QC review of construction documents and technical reports; providing construction contract administration including performing site visits to survey, document, and report field conditions; coordinating staffing with other disciplines, coordinating with subconsultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget, and managing day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the client; preparing RFI responses; working with the Business/Accounting Manager, Project Controller or Company Controller and Department Manager or Managing Principal for project reviews; and participating in marketing and proposal efforts, expanding the electrical team’s network within the industry.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 5 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer licensure required (from any US jurisdiction).
  • Experience must also include experience in: designing lighting and electrical systems for at least one of the following types of buildings: water/wastewater, healthcare, laboratory facilities, federal, utility, mission critical, or commercial office facilities; life safety and building management systems; AutoCAD; Revit; Agi32; Bluebeam Revu; and Microsoft Office.
