WSP USA is seeking a highly energetic, self-motivated, and goal-oriented Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Northeast Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering Team and work out of our New York, NY office. Your Impact Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners. Lead electrical design for transportation-related facilities, including: Transit stations, tunnels, and underground structures Roadway and highway facilities Tunnel and station ventilation systems Traction power interfaces, utility power, and emergency power systems Design and coordinate electrical systems such as: Power distribution (normal, emergency, standby) Lighting and lighting controls (including tunnel and roadway lighting) Grounding and bonding systems Fire alarm and life-safety systems Low-voltage systems (communications, SCADA interfaces, CCTV, access control) Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members (mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, communications, structural, civil, architectural, and other disciplines) Plan and incorporate various design requirements with equipment sizing and cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit design strategies that account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure. Prepare and/or review electrical calculations for loads, voltage drop, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, protective device coordination, arc flash analysis, one-line diagram development, protective relaying, and lighting calculations Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, construction safety and phasing plans, and updating electrical infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Perform Construction Phase Services, including reviewing RFI’s, shop drawings, submittals, field visits, and coordination with contractors. Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops internally and externally with transportation agencies. Mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to technical quality control Remain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for capital projects in building facilities and/or transportation.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, highly preferred.
  • Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Demonstrates competence and comprehensive knowledge concerning adjacent disciplines such as electrical engineering, P&C, SCADA, and telecom.
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, OpenBuildings, SKM/ETAP, AGI, etc.), spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • NY Professional Engineer License.
  • Knowledge of tunnel ventilation power systems and emergency operating modes.
  • Experience with Public Agencies (e.g.: MTA/NYCT, PANYNJ, Amtrak, etc.).
  • Experience with Water / Wastewater Treatment and/or Aviation facilities.
  • Experience with sustainable infrastructure or resiliency-focused design
