About The Position

The Sr. Engineer will oversee Electrical Testing and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Programs at plants owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will be responsible for planning such efforts as major generator outages at Oglethorpe Plants and the design, selection and implementation of new control systems at Oglethorpe Plants. The incumbent will help in planning, review and monitor annual electrical inspections and write annual reports at facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will provide business, administrative, and technical support for plant managers and other personnel as needed, including the design of new plant systems or modifications to existing plant systems, planning, budgeting, and performance analysis for facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will help in the procedure writing of actual plant procedures to enable compliance with NERC/SERC standards such as reactive power validation. As a member of Technical Services, the incumbent will also provide services, such as the review of drawings, specifications, design memoranda, etc., to generation projects in development or under construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology (preferably BSEE) - Technical and business knowledge of generating plant operation, performance and economics.
  • This position is a Senior Engineer level position. 10+ years minimum engineering and five years minimum preventive and predictive maintenance experience in an operating commercial electric power generating plant is required, including planning, budgeting, preventive and predictive maintenance and maintenance analysis.
  • Creativity; ability to organize and manage time well and to work with autonomy; good interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication abilities; good technical and business analytical skills; PC fluency. Ability to work directly with Plant Manager and senior plant staff.
  • valid driver's license that meets the insurance requirements under Oglethorpe Power's Drivers Qualification Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • Level II Thermographer or Level II Vibration Analyst certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Planning such efforts as major equipment outages and coordinating the design, selection and installation of major new equipment and systems
  • Oversee Electrical Testing and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Programs at plants owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power.
  • Review and monitor annual electrical inspections at facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power
  • Serve as the OPC technical expert on electrical power engineering and predictive and preventive maintenance
  • Provide business, administrative, and technical support for plant managers and other personnel as needed, including the design of new plant systems or modifications to existing plant systems, planning, budgeting, and performance analysis for facilities operated and maintained by OPC
  • Provide services, such as the review of drawings, specifications, design memoranda, etc., to generation projects in development or under construction.
  • Provide engineering support to insure the Corporation's compliance with NERC Reliability Standards. This shall include technical evaluation of work required to comply with the Standards, performance and/or oversight of work required, evidence generation, procedure development, etc.
