About The Position

TMMG is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support and lead electrical engineering execution within the Engineering Design Team (EDT). The EDT provides engineering design services to Military Sealift Command (MSC), the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and commercial maritime operators, delivering compliant, executable engineering solutions that support shipboard operations, shipyard installations, modernization efforts, troubleshooting, and equipment commissioning. This position reports to the assigned Project Lead Engineer / Lead Design Engineer and serves as a technical authority within the electrical discipline, providing leadership, engineering judgment, and execution oversight for assigned projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to operate with minimal supervision, take ownership of electrical scope, and actively manage technical, schedule, and cost risk within their area of responsibility. All work is performed in accordance with TMMG’s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, with strong emphasis on technical rigor, configuration control, cost and schedule awareness, and first-time acceptance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline).
  • Minimum 10 years of post-graduate experience supporting shipboard electrical systems, marine power plants, or shipyard electrical installations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical design efforts for ship repair, modernization, or new installation projects.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Company background investigation, U.S. Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances, and CAC eligibility are required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hands-on use of industry-standard electrical power system analysis software SKM, ETAP, or similar electrical analysis platforms.
  • Prior experience supporting ABS, NAVSEA, and USCG design reviews and approvals.
  • Experience operating in shipyard or waterfront execution environments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and review of shipboard electrical design deliverables including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring and control diagrams, block diagrams, cable schedules, load analyses, and installation details.
  • Serve as the electrical technical authority for assigned projects, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, constructible, maintainable, and aligned with shipboard operational realities.
  • Provide electrical engineering leadership for ship alterations, modernization efforts, system upgrades, and integration of new technologies.
  • Review and approve electrical design products produced by junior engineers and designers prior to release.
  • Lead and perform ship checks in support of transportation alterations, troubleshooting, modernization, and electrical system integration.
  • Evaluate shipboard conditions and make engineering decisions when discrepancies or conflicts are identified.
  • Ensure redlines, field notes, and engineering changes are accurately incorporated into final AutoCAD deliverables under strict configuration control.
  • Protect as-built accuracy and ensure released drawings reflect verified field conditions and approved design intent.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable IEEE, ABS, NAVSEA, and USCG rules, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead responses to regulatory, class, and customer comments related to electrical systems.
  • Support audits, technical reviews, and external design approvals as required.
  • Lead electrical material readiness assessments and evaluate deficiencies affecting shipboard operations.
  • Develop corrective action plans and engineered solutions that reduce operational, schedule, and cost risk.
  • Translate shipboard deficiencies into executable work items, technical instructions, and installation guidance for shipyard execution.
  • Provide senior-level technical support during shipboard installations, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Lead or support troubleshooting of complex electrical issues in coordination with ship’s force, shipyards, vendors, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Support operational testing, verification, and acceptance activities.
  • Develop electrical work items, cost estimates, engineering deliverables, and technical reports in alignment with project scope and objectives.
  • Own labor hour performance for assigned electrical scope, including tracking planned vs. actual hours and identifying trends early.
  • Maintain real-time awareness of schedule status, remaining effort, and alignment with project milestones.
  • Proactively identify cost or schedule risks and communicate impacts and recovery plans to the Project Lead Engineer / Lead Design Engineer.
  • Understand and manage electrical work sequencing relative to other disciplines to prevent execution bottlenecks or rework.
  • Actively participate in project planning, POA&M development, and execution control discussions.
  • Mentor and technically guide Electrical Engineer I/II personnel and CAD designers.
  • Set expectations for quality, documentation discipline, and professional engineering judgment.
  • Support workforce development by transferring knowledge and best practices across the EDT.
