About The Position

The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) organization is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer - VMEbus Hardware to join our team in Seattle, Washington. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain Versa-Module Eurocard (VME) and non-VME based systems test stations for hardware-in-the-loop validation and verification tests for all Boeing commercial and commercially derived military airplane flight controls and avionics systems. The successful candidate will be part of our passionate and highly motivated team, excited to develop the newest Boeing airliners and support those that have come before. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of experience with designing and implementing VME and non-VME (PCIe, PXI) based embedded data input/output hardware & software solutions for test systems.
  • 5+ years of experience working with suppliers to evaluate and select digital, analog, and aviation bus protocol I/O cards to meet project-specific requirements.
  • Experience with Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) based systems architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis on real-time embedded systems.
  • 2+ years of experience with the integration of embedded software and hardware for real-time test systems.
  • 2+ years of experience with VxWorks Real-Time Operating System.
  • 2+ years of experience developing embedded system device drivers.
  • 5+ years of designing and optimizing embedded firmware for VMEbus-based devices.
  • 5+ year of experience developing and integrating device driver software for VMEbus hardware for the VxWorks RTOS.
  • 5+ years of experience with the C programming language.
  • Proficiency in digital, analog, and high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Ability to synthesize test system requirements and develop embedded system-level requirements.
  • Proficient with commercial and military aviation data communication protocols (ARINC 664/AFDX, ARINC 629, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of real-time operating systems and their timing/interrupt/synchronization intricacies and constraints.
  • Working knowledge of a Linux development environment.
  • Experience working with hardware/software interfaces.
  • Experience with real-time test systems.
  • Experience using software repositories and version control.
  • Experience in VxWorks OS, VxWorks system administration, kernel builds, WindRiver Workbench, and associated tools.
  • Basic knowledge of modeling and simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate VMEbus components with other hardware and software elements in complex test systems.
  • Design and develop VME based electronic assemblies featuring embedded processors.
  • Test and troubleshoot VMEbus hardware and test systems using various diagnostic tools.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on VMEbus projects.
  • Research and gather knowledge on the latest available COTS VME based IO solutions.
