Curious and innovative problem solvers looking for the chance to meaningfully shape the future of cardiac health, our company, and your career About This Role: iRhythm is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our sustaining engineering (end-of-life, cost-down) and failure analysis efforts for our existing products. This role is focused on troubleshooting, process optimization, and ensuring reliable, compliant production. The role will be a member of the Electrical Engineering design and test team within iRhythm’s R&D (Product Development) Department. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working across disciplines to sustain high-quality, life-critical devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the medical device or other regulated industries.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design, PCB design, and component selection.
  • Experience with component lifecycle management, EOL replacements, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Familiarity with schematic and layout tools (Altium a plus) as well as circuit analysis and simulation tools (SPICE).
  • Hands-on lab experience including soldering, data acquisition, debugging techniques, and lab test equipment: multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
  • Experience with a scripting language for analyzing and plotting data (Python a plus).
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in root cause analysis tools (Fishbone, 5 Whys, FMEA) and statistical methods (SPC, DOE).
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions (CAPA).
  • Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and verification/validation processes under FDA Regulation.
  • Understanding of 60601 testing standards.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple sustaining initiatives concurrently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical lifecycle activities for iRhythm’s commercialized medical devices.
  • Identify and qualify replacements for end-of-life (EOL) electrical components to maintain supply continuity.
  • Execute cost-down and design optimization projects to improve product reliability and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Perform failure analysis for field and manufacturing issues; conduct root cause investigations.
  • Support design transfer activities and ensure smooth communication between R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
  • Review and update electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs as needed for sustaining changes.
  • Prepare and execute test protocols, test reports, and related medical technical documentation.
  • Update FMEA, Requirements, and other documentation per FDA design control requirements.
  • Foster a close relationship with iRhythm’s supply chain, manufacturing, and quality departments, as well as iRhythm’s external suppliers.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
