We deliver solutions that help our nation and allies defend freedom and deter aggression, creating a safer, more secure world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense. Raytheon is seeking a Senior FPGA Design Engineer to provide direct execution support on an active program. This role focuses on RTL development, simulation, and implementation of FPGA-based designs, supporting delivery timelines and reducing program execution risk. You will work closely with electrical engineering and integration teams to support design, verification, and lab bring-up activities across multiple FPGA designs.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience designing FPGA-based systems using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience using FPGA development toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado) for synthesis, implementation, and timing closure.
  • Experience developing and executing simulation testbenches using ModelSim, QuestaSim, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience applying digital design fundamentals including finite state machines (FSMs), clocking, resets, synchronous design, and clock domain crossing (CDC).
  • Experience developing TCL scripts to automate FPGA build and simulation workflows.
  • Experience debugging FPGA designs in simulation and lab environments.
  • Experience using Git or equivalent version control systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to verification methodologies (SystemVerilog, structured test benches).
  • Experience with Synplify synthesis tool.
  • Experience working on multi-FPGA or complex board-level systems.
  • Experience supporting integration and test activities in a lab environment.
  • Exposure to MATLAB/Simulink, including HDL generation workflows and integration into FPGA toolchains.
  • Experience instantiating vendor and third-party Ips.
  • Familiarity with motor control systems.
  • Exposure to JIRA or similar issue tracking methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain FPGA designs using VHDL and Verilog.
  • Create and execute simulation testbenches using ModelSim / QuestaSim.
  • Support FPGA synthesis, implementation, and debug using standard tool flows.
  • Develop and maintain TCL/Batch scripts for building automation and repeatable workflows.
  • Perform functional verification through simulation and lab validation.
  • Support troubleshooting in lab environments and during system integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (EE, ME, systems, test) to resolve issues.
  • Follow and contribute to Git-based configuration management processes.
  • Document design approaches, test results, and issues in a structured manner.
  • Develop repeatable and automated FPGA build and simulation workflows.
  • Participate in and contribute to timely code reviews.

Benefits

  • A total rewards package that goes above and beyond with compensation; healthcare, wellness, and work/life benefits; career development and recognition programs.
  • Some of the benefits we offer include parental (including paternal) leave, flexible work schedules, achievement awards, educational assistance and child/adult backup care.
