About The Position

Tools for Humanity is looking for a Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to lead device development on our concept engineering team. This role will work closely with Software, Product Development, and Industrial Design teams to develop functional concepts driving the technological roadmap at Tools for Humanity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in electronics product development, including concept to design, planning, circuit development, and multilayer layout creation with E-CAD tools.
  • Experience leading electrical engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in circuit simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and VNA.
  • Hands-on experience in developing and integrating embedded camera-based hardware systems.
  • Programming skills in C for microcontroller development, with experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS), preferably FreeRTOS and Zephyr.
  • Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing multimodal sensing systems.
  • Previous experience in fast-paced startups as well as experience shipping high volume consumer devices.
  • Experience with working with sensor vendors including image sensor suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design device concepts to rapidly derisk future programs.
  • Design functional prototypes of advanced biometric sensing systems.
  • Technology selection for concepts and risk analysis for productization.
  • End to end ownership of concept electrical systems, ensuring they can meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on concept integration into products with a focus on DFx, cost, power, and performance.
  • Developing and implementing advanced electrical systems and circuits.
  • Program microcontrollers in C with real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS and Zephyr) for testing and device bring-up.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers in development best practices.
