About The Position

As a Senior Electrical Automation Technician at Smithfield Foods, you will be at the forefront of enhancing and maintaining our facility's electrical control systems. This role involves driving automation solutions, from initial setup and programming to ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting. You will collaborate closely with a dynamic automation team to shape and refine the long-term technological roadmap for the plant, ensuring continuous evolution and optimization of our systems. Your expertise in electrical controls and automation technologies will provide innovative solutions that address real-world manufacturing challenges, improving processes and ensuring seamless operations on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or technical school and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as electrical schematics and safety rules.
  • Ability to write routine reports and procedural manuals in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell automation required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate the status of issues and projects effectively.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to maintenance technicians.
  • Use appropriate tools to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues.
  • Work with internal and external resources to resolve issues quickly.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of safety by adhering to best work practices, conducting monthly safety audits, and ensuring rigorous GMP compliance.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions to protect product quality and uphold food safety standards.
  • Proactively identify and report risks that could jeopardize food safety, product quality, or personnel well-being.
  • Decode complex electrical schematics and user manuals to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
  • Solve automation and robotics software issues, applying advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Resolve PLC and touchscreen issues to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve control networking issues, keeping systems connected and reliable.
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain and troubleshoot servers.
  • Identify and drive automation improvements that elevate processes.
  • Create user manuals and training materials for team empowerment.
  • Mentor maintenance technicians and provide hands-on training.
  • Organize and back up electrical and automation documentation.
